Family Home Evening {FHE}

Tonight we read He is Risen by Thomas S. Monson from the May 2010 Ensign. (A monthly publication of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) I flipped to this article and knew it was perfect to read today. It is the anniversary of the death in a family we know, and my good friend Chesley’s family is also going through a rough time. I only hope this article can give them comfort as well as anyone that reads or watches it. One of my favorite parts is –

The empty tomb that first Easter morning was the answer to Job’s question, “If a man die, shall he live again?” To all within the sound of my voice, I declare, If a man die, he shall live again. We know, for we have the light of revealed truth.

“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”

I have read—and I believe—the testimonies of those who experienced the grief of Christ’s Crucifixion and the joy of His Resurrection. I have read—and I believe—the testimonies of those in the New World who were visited by the same risen Lord.

I believe the testimony of one who, in this dispensation, spoke with the Father and the Son in a grove now called sacred and who gave his life, sealing that testimony with his blood. Declared he:

“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

“For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father.”

The darkness of death can always be dispelled by the light of revealed truth. “I am the resurrection, and the life,” spoke the Master.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.

That’s what I hope to my friends at this time, peace. I love you.

I know that these words are true. Christ lives and we can live again.

This mortal life is a glimmer, but vitally important, next to eternity.

Heavenly Father lives and he loves you.

I know Thomas S. Monson, the author of this talk, is a true prophet of God. Every time I read his words or hear his voice a feeling of comfort comes over me. It can only be of God.

We can be with our loved ones beyond this life through the temple. What a truly wonderful thing that is, to know we can see our loves again, all through Jesus Christ.

This is the painting talked about at the beginning of the talk.

I get emotional reading this story, you will see.

Also FHE will be a recurring feature on my bloggy-blog. It is defined as this-

“Family Home Evening

Church leaders have instructed members to set aside Monday night as “family home evening.” This is a time for families to study the gospel together and to do other activities that strengthen the family spiritually, create family memories, and increase unity and love.”

More info here #mce_temp_url# (okay I figured out the link, but this is a new problem.)

Happy {comforting and full of peace} Day.

Love, Meggie B.
